ADiT-Lab researchers Sérgio Lopes and Carlos Abreu are members of the recent approved project entitled “CoViS: Contactless Vital Signs Monitoring in Nursing Homes using a Multimodal Approach”, under the call “15/SI/2020, PROJETOS DE I&DT EMPRESAS :: COVID-19 (I&D Empresas e Infraestruturas de Ensaio e Otimização)”. The project will start in November 2020 and finish in July 2021.
The CoViS project aims to develop a real-time monitoring solution for vital signs using techniques that do not require contact with the patient. The use of non-contact radar-based techniques for monitoring vital signs is important for the entire population, with a special emphasis on the elderly population residing in homes: it is more comfortable and less invasive for patients, as it eliminates the need to use wires . Continuous monitoring of vital signs, such as body temperature and cardiopulmonary rates, can be crucial in the early detection and prediction of diseases, such as COVID-19, which progress rapidly and particularly affect this population group.
